Deval Shipping Group of Companies has it’s roots dating back to 1881 when Captain Hasan Deval was trading with various import and export cargoes on his 150 dwt wooden sail-boat called ‘Plevne’ between Russian Empire and Ottoman Empire.
In 1910 he moved his family from Rize to the City of Istanbul to expand his business and gain from the riches of the City, which was the only Trade Center of the Country in those days.
In 1914, his 7 of 12 sailboats were nationalized to serve for the Navy of the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
During the Turkish Independence War Captain Ismail Hakkı took over the business from his father Captain Hasan and traded with the remaining 5 sailboats until when in 1952 he purchased his first 750 dwt S/s ‘Beyhan’ - a 1919 New Zealand built steam ship. Soon after in 1955, he would be the first Shipowner in Turkey to convert his steam propulsion to ‘Diesel Engine on this vessel.
Today, Deval Shipping Group of Companies Manage its own tonnage worldwide.
